Be A Reader
Activity
Project
"Be
A Reader" is a program
developed by QSP, to encourage
girls from Daisy Girl Scouts
right up to Senior Girl
Scouts to experience the
fun and joy of reading.
This
program is in addition to
the QSP sales program. This
year’s “Be a
Reader” focuses on
how people can safely and
responsibly enjoy wildlife,
with a focus on bears. Girls
can find a lot of information
related to bear awareness
and wilderness stewardship
in books and online. Younger
girls develop a sense of
empowerment by sharing the
important information they
gather about animals with
family and friends. Older
girls can learn the latest
safety techniques for avoiding
conflict with wildlife while
hiking, camping and photographing
animals. They can share
this information with younger
girls and adults. Although
Daisy Girl Scouts are too
young to participate in
the QSP subscription program,
they can participate in
the learning activities
provided in the "Be
A Reader" Activity
Booklet.
Each
Morris Area Girl Scout Troop
will receive a copy of the
“Be a Reader”
booklet at their Service
Unit's September Leader
meeting. To participate
in the program and earn
a patch, each leader determines
the number of activities
her troop must complete.
The girls will choose activities
that interest them. Once
all requirements are complete.
first time participants
earn the large "Be
A Reader" patch. A
small "Bee" patch
is earned for each succeeding
year a girl participates
in the program. Patches
can be purchased at the
Council Shop. The "Be
A Reader" patch is
$1 and the tiny bee is 35
cents.
