American Red Cross of Northwest New Jersey
Project: Junior and Senior Girl Scout troops are offered an opportunity to play bingo at senior citizen apartment complexes in Morristown, Randolph, Rockaway, Dover and Wharton. Bingo sessions last 1.5 hours. Bingo supplies are at all the complexes already. Troops can also bake homemade cookies or put together prizes (5) for the bingo sessions.

Jersey Battered Women's Service
Project: Helping Hands, a program through Jersey Battered Women's Service, advises and assists Girl Scouts and troops in creating innovative projects that can help prevent relationship violence, educate communities and create social change. We can work with your troop on a group project and advise Girl Scouts working toward their Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. Projects may include: Sponsoring an art contest; creating a display for your local or school library, creating a skit for younger girls, organizing an event for parents about healthy relationships, researching your school's policies about dating abuse, designing and distributing fliers about domestic violence, creating displays in school, places of worship and community centers about dating abuse, designing a "dating bill of rights/warning signs" bookmarks; or scheduling a dating abuse awareness week in your school/community.

Bridges Outreach, Inc.
Project: Several volunteer opportunities are available: Make bag lunches for distribution on Thursday morning, Friday night and Saturday morning; hold a clothing and toiletries drive; sponsor a "Bridges Run", or make soup.

Catherine's Closet
Project: Collect, sort and distribute gently used gowns for girls in underprivileged areas to wear to their prom.

Care Bags Foundation
Project: Help kids in crisis. The foundation provides handmade fabric bags filled with essential and comforting items for needy children. Visit www.carebags4 kids.org for specific information on what you can do to help. You can also let that used sneaker keep on running. Visit www.nike.com/nikebiz and click on "Responsibility" and "Environment" links to learn about Reuse-A-Shoe. Athletic shoes are gathered, separated and ground into Nike Grind material for use in athletic surfaces and fields called NikeGO places to help kids get moving.

Bridge Communities
Project: Earn a new patch called "A Heart for the Homeless" as you learn about the issues facing homeless families in the community and find out what you can do to help.

Project: Let America's military men and women know you appreciate their service. Visit www.americasupportsyou.mil to send a message of support and thanks.

Veterans' Hospital Projects

Project: The American Red Cross plays a crucial role at the Veteran's Hospital in Lyons, New Jersey every day. There are about 600 veterans at the hospital and Red Cross volunteers are responsible for coordinating birthday gifts for them. Troops or girls can pick one of the following activities:
Collect new white socks, knit hats, gloves and or sweatshirts. Items should be new and in large or extra large;
Create birthday cards. Girls should sign their first name only, but do not include addresses or phone numbers;

ake grooming kits that include shampoo, toothpaste, soap, lotion, and toilet water, or scissors. Grooming bags can be as simple as decorated lunch bags or plastic "zip lock" bags.

Drop off collected items at either 29 Elm Street, Morristown, NJ 07960 or 115 Greenwich Street, Belvidere, NJ 07823. Or mail them to: American Red Cross of Northwest New Jersey, 29 Elm Street, Morristown, NJ 07960 Attn: Youth Services.

Troy Hills Center
 
Project: Volunteers are needed to call Bingo, help with arts and crafts, baking, trivia, card games and a whole lot more. If you have a green thumb or an amazing voice, please volunteer to show them off with the residents of Troy Hills Center.
