Question 1:
Why have some of the course titles changed
(Troop Camper Module 1 and Troop Camper
Module 2A&B are now Overnight Orientation
and Troop Camper Certification Part 1
& 2)?
ANSWER:
MAGSC believes that these titles more
accurately reflect the content of the
courses. Because Overnight Orientation
fills the requirement for troops attending
indoor overnights (i.e. Embassy Suites
or Liberty Science Center) as well as
outdoor camping, we felt that the title
should not imply solely camping. Overnight
Orientation is a pre-requisite for Troop
Camper Certification, but it is also a
course that stands on its own. Troop Camper
Certification is a two-part course, and
we felt this would be more clear if the
title indicated this.
Question 2:
Troop Camper Certification must be re-certified
every five years, but Does Overnight Orientation
ever expire?
ANSWER:
No. While participants must re-certify
their Troop Camper Certification every
five years, Overnight Orientation does
not expire.
Question 3:
Why do Troop Camper Certification, Part
1 & 2 need to be taken together? Can
participants take Troop Camper Certification
Part 1 and pair it with a different Part
2?
ANSWER:
While it may be more convenient, unfortunately
the success of Troop Camper Certification,
Part 2 depends on teams working together,
and these teams are formed during Part
1. In Part 1 you will be planning an outdoor
meal and camping experience. Each participant
will be assigned a specific job and will
have to bring certain food for their group’s
meal. Because of this, Troop Camper Certification,
Part 1 & 2 must be taken together.
Question 4:
What is the difference between the CPR/First
Aid Challenge and the CPR/First Aid Review?
ANSWER:
The review goes over the materials, while
the challenge simply allows participants
the opportunity to demonstrate their skills
and knowledge. Participants must prepare
for the challenge on their own time.
Question 5:
When do troops need to have a “first-aider”
accompany them?
ANSWER
Troop meetings: “First-aiders are
needed for physically demanding activities
and other activities involving a potential
for injury.” Safety Wise p. 38
Troop Trips: A “first-aider”
is not required for trips where there
is a qualified first-aider at the facility.
“For trips of a day or more, at
least one currently certified first-aider
is present.” Safety Wise p. 88
Troop Camping: At least one adult on each
trip must be a currently trained “first-aider.”
Safety Wise p. 88
